Judges 11 – The Unnamed Daughter

I read a book by Emily E. Ryan titled  “Who has your heart” introducing me to a role model in the bible whom I could relate too, a single woman not by choice – Jephthah’s unnamed daughter. In the midst of all the great stories found in the bible this unnamed heroine who is mentioned in only one chapter in the book of Judges, truly became an inspiration for me.

Its only fair to say for years my favorite stories in the bible were about single woman like Queen Esther who got married to her King & Ruth a widow who got her second chance to be with her Boaz, such beautiful love stories, but what had once warmed my heart became stories whose pages I least turned to. After all they got married I have not, yes I may seem petty, but if all the great women in the bible ended up married, where does that leave me, a single woman in this current world.

While I write from the point of view as a single Christian woman for single women, I hope that what is written will resonate well with whoever reads and follows this blog, after all, the word “single” can also be applied to whatever status and gender you may be in life.I know for one thing being single can be greatly associated with being alone.

To the unnamed single daughters, this journey we take as single women, does not mean we have to travel it alone. Jephthah’s daughter surrounded herself with true friends who I believe were able to sympathize with her over her predicament in confidence and understanding.

For the next 40 days to my sisters/friends/daughters who are single, lets celebrate the season of singleness by taking the time to refocus and find out what our purpose is, as women who are currently single in this world. I’m sure there have been multiple times you have asked yourself, “what on earth are you here for”? I no doubt have asked myself the same question.

So tomorrow let’s begin with the topic “It’s not all about you”.

Be Blessed.

  1. Love this already!
I once started Rick Warren’s book (The Purpose Driven Life) & never completed it. I would love to start now as this blog has motivated me to begin this journey & be consistent in doing so.
