Day 15: Judges 11 – The Unnamed Daughter

Purposely living as a Single woman in God’s Family

To the unnamed single daughters who have been following through this blog I do hope you have stayed faithful, by committing to reading a chapter daily from The Purpose Driven Life, I certainly have. I do apologies for this pending post, I had to take a few days thinking about the importance of being part of the family of God regardless of your current single status. Why? Because though I am a single woman I hold the very essence of the word “Family” close to my heart.

So lets pick up the pace again and start this blog post off with Jephthah’s unnamed daughter, how did she fit into it all. How did she, a single woman live purposefully in God’s family? For thing we do know that she was after all given a very important role, the role of serving her father and the people of Israel through her sacrifice and dedication. Where did she find the strength to continue through with this calling on her life?

I’m sure most us all would lean or have leaned to our immediate family members for support through different stages of our lives. And regardless of what you may be facing, you know that it is your family that will genuinely support you. But there are may be situations that even your own immediate family is nowhere near to you nor are they in the position to help you. Who do you go too?

Jephthah’s daughter found herself in similar predicament you see, if you have read Judges 11, even her family tree was a pretty small one consisting only of herself and her father, nothing is mentioned of her mother. Sure she extended family members, however it didn’t seem she was particularly close to them, after all her father’s step brothers didn’t even treat her father well. So where did she get her support from, I would like to believe that surely it was from her church family (her friends). Judges 11 verse 18 puts it ever so simply “so she went away with her friends”.

Being part of God’s family is a pretty awesome deal, not only do you get a big international family but you most importantly you get God as your Heavenly Father to live with forever. You can seemingly be alone and far away from your immediate family but when you’re part of God’s family regardless of whatever situation you maybe facing they will be there to embrace you, it obviously worked for Jephthah’s daughter.

For the single women, who many think that you really don’t have much to contribute to the church family think again, Jephthah’s daughter even though she remained single lived a very purposeful life and she contributed a lot, basically her entire life serving.

Maybe you have not realized, however, one of most beautiful things about being single is the ability to be flexible and available to changes and commitments that maybe required from your church family and your biological family. Be open to what God may call you to do and use your time, share your availability and resources to serve willing the church family for the glory of Jesus Christ.

Ephesians 1:5a “Having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself” (The Woman’s Study Bible NKJV)

You are blessed.
