Day 16: Judges 11 – The Unnamed Daughter

To Embrace Life in Love

Dear Single Unnamed Daughter,

You are so blessed, blessed with the opportunity to embrace those around you with love. For awhile I used to think why should I? Why should I put all that effort into embracing those around me when it really does not feel like its being reciprocated, but as I allowed myself to be available and part of God’s family, that was where I always found myself being embraced in love and accepted as a single woman.  While I always found myself alone and most times trying to fit in to what the worldly view demanded of me, my church family kept me grounded always reminding me that I was never alone.

I am reminded of a time where I was talking to one of my closest and dearest sisters in Christ who is also a single woman and our conversation somehow veered to “relationships”. Now I’m sure you would agree that this would be a fairly talked about topic among single people and as we were conversing I became so frustrated, not with my friend but over the topic we were discussing. I exclaimed without thinking, forget love, my friend at that very moment without blinking, turned looked at me and spoke in a quiet but stern voice, saying “No Betty, God is Love“. What a beautiful and vital correction I needed to hear at that very humbling moment.

Sure the like all families you may have slight disagreements and clash of thoughts or reasoning and yes you may feel as though you’re being picked on or left out and there are moments where just like me you forget about this very sure promise, may you remember that God loved all of us so much that He sent Jesus Christ his only son to die on the cross, taking on himself the sins of this world.

Even on the cross as Jesus was dying he reminded us of the importance of the embracing our church family. John 19: 26 – 27, “When Jesus therefore saw His mother, and the disciple whom he loved standing by, He said to His mother, “Woman, behold your son!” Then He said to the disciple, “Behold your mother!” And from that hour that disciple took her to his own home.” (The Woman’s Study Bible NKJV)

John 3: 16 says it so beautifully ” For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”(The Woman’s Study Bible NKJV)

So my beautiful sisters in Christ, I would like to share that beautiful reminder that God is Love. Let us remind each other through our daily conversations and interactions of His love. Even in your single status you can embrace those around you in love through small things that may speak volume. Those many “Me” times can be shared with those who may just need a friend to lean on. Galatians 5:14 “For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” (The Woman’s Study Bible NKJV)

You are loved.

Be Blessed
